The first version should make one promise clearly. Every extra feature has to earn its place by improving that promise, not by making the product look complete.
Good product systems also make change cheaper. Content, interface states, data, and visual behavior should be separated enough that the product can grow without a redesign every time.
The goal is not minimalism for its own sake. It is a product whose structure keeps the important things obvious as it becomes more capable.
